Children and adolescents

Pediatric Sjögren's disease

Semi-urgentWithin 4–8 weeks

Recurrent parotid swelling is the most common presentation in children, more often than dryness.

What to look for

  • Recurrent parotitis, dry eyes or mouth, fatigue, arthralgia
  • ANA, SSA/Ro, SSB/La or RF positive. Can overlap with SLE.

What to do

  • Send ANA, SSA/SSB, RF, CBC, metabolic panel, IgG and urinalysis.
  • Ophthalmology for an ocular surface assessment.
  • Rule out infection or stones for parotid swelling.

About this urgency level

Specialist evaluation helps, but these are usually less time-sensitive than new inflammatory arthritis or connective tissue disease.

Timeframes are typical targets. Local pathways, capacity and clinical judgment come first.
