Adults
Sjögren's disease: sicca-predominant
Dry eyes and mouth with anti-SSA/Ro, without systemic features.
What to look for
- Persistent dry eyes and/or mouth, often with dental caries
- Anti-SSA/Ro positive, without purpura, neuropathy, cytopenias, gland swelling or organ involvement
What to do
- Treat dryness: artificial tears, saliva substitutes, sugar-free lozenges, dental care, and review of drying medications.
- Pilocarpine or cevimeline can help glandular dryness.
- SSA/Ro-positive women considering pregnancy need counseling about neonatal lupus and heart block.
- New systemic features raise the urgency.
About this urgency level
These benefit from rheumatology input but are not time-critical. Treatment can often begin, or continue, in primary care while the patient waits.
Timeframes are typical targets. Local pathways, capacity and clinical judgment come first.
